Understanding how to eliminate pet stains on carpet and upholstery may save us time, money, and possible humiliation. As each animal lover knows dogs and cats have an unfortunate habit of producing unsightly and foul-smelling messes around the home. This short guide gives you a few fast, time-tested methods on keeping your household clean and comfortable for both you and your furry friend.
Determine what sort of stain it is
Different types of stains require different cleaning approaches. Mucus stains often brought on by the ingestion of hair and marijuana, are comparatively quick and easy to clean up with easy dish soap and water. Little if any odor is left. Fecal or vomit stains, on the other hand, can be trickier and often require a little more time and preparation, which I cover below. The discoloration and odor brought on by dog urine and cat urine stains fall into another special category, additionally covered below.

Think about re-usable
When you can, it is always best to use washable fabric cleaning rags that you keep specifically to eliminate pet stains. They are more absorbent than paper towels, better for the environment, and cheaper in the long term.
However, when in a rush or in a situation where outdoor garbage facilities aren’t available, a lot of people minimize indoor scents by cleanup using paper towels. The towels can then be wrapped snugly in a plastic shopping bag before disposal in an indoor garbage can. An air freshener or spritz of essential oil in the neighborhood of the can might also be a good idea in a little apartment or badly ventilated home.
Pick a natural cleaning product
Different cleaning products are acceptable for different types of stains on different surfaces. Mucus stains generally require just water and a teaspoon of mild soap. Dish soap works well. To remove cat pee or dog urine stains, a mixture of 1 cup of warm water and two tablespoons clear white vinegar works well to remove odor. Simply blend in a bowl or plastic spray bottle, apply to the stain, and rub with a cloth rag or paper towel. The vinegar smell will linger briefly but will soon fade, taking the pet stain and urine odor with it. The odor is nullified in the response of the acid from the urine together with all the acid in the vinegar.
Modern enzymatic spray cleaners work well and quickly on all sorts of stains, especially those that are dark-colored, damn, or persistently bad-smelling. However, many people find them too expensive for ordinary use. Still more people just prefer natural options. For these people, extended treatment soaking may be a fantastic cleaning strategy to eliminate pet stains.

A hot water extended soak treatment
Extended treatment is generally not necessary with pet urine and mucus stains, but for removing pet fecal stains, vomit stains, or any kind of stain which involves blood, a period of soaking with warm water is often necessary. First (without rubbing) pickup and remove up to the bulk of the pet mess as possible. Don’t attempt to scratch it all up at this point – you might just rub it in.
When the stained surface is as dry and clean as you can make it, just take one cup of warm water and blend in either two teaspoons of cleaning product or soap, or 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Mix until the liquid is completely combined, but not until it froths over.
Require a soft cloth or dense mass of paper towels, and mix it with your cleaning fluid. Lay the cloth or towels around as much of the surface of the pet area as possible. Let it become highly saturated in the fluid to give the particles time to loosen. For a fresh, moist stain, allow the cloth to sit for at least five minutes. For old, hardened spots, allow sitting ten to fifteen minutes. Gently lift the cloth, plucking up as much of the rest of the residue as you can. Using a new cloth or fresh towels, rub on the moistened residue until it’s clean. If any discoloration or odor remains, repeat the soaking treatment another time.
Options for pets with persistent gastrointestinal or Illness Difficulties
If your pet has chronic nausea or nausea, making messes more than once a week, you must take a stool sample to your veterinarian to check for worms. This is very urgent if your pet’s condition seems to be making him or her uneasy.
While older animals do tend to create gastrointestinal problems late in life, most such symptoms are treatable using probiotics. There might be rather simple changes you can make to a pet’s dietary pattern to address their problem. Do not treat the issue as an unsolvable problem – it’s quite likely that there’s something that you can do to help your pet feel better.
Animals with persistent urination problems – especially cats, might be acting out because of stress. Changes in your pet’s routine along with the arrangement of your home may be enough to wean him or her of the habit of marking.
In case you have a pet with seemingly intractable mess difficulties, purchasing or renting a steam cleaner may well be a sensible choice for removing pet stains. Steam cleaners can be especially useful for older folks or those with restricted mobility, who may have trouble with the quantity of getting down and up involved with the soaking step. Because a steam cleaner is a large investment, you should study reviews carefully before making your selection. Don’t just purchase the cheapest item. You may use this device for a while, and it is important to choose one that’s both lasting and appropriate to your personal requirements. Make sure you consider if you’ll use it primarily on carpeting or upholstery; whether you want to have an upright or hand cleaner; and whether your cleaner is a good size and weight to your needs and strength.
If you believe you’ll only require the cleaner occasionally, it may be better to hire a cleaning service on an as-needed basis. Check your telephone book to understand what’s offered in your area.
